LST 1156 First Log Entry
Friday, 21 November 1952
1045-1200 Pursuant to orders of Chief of Naval Operations
LetterOP-4351JH, Serial32743 dated 25 February 1952, Captain Spiller,
representing Admiral McCrae, Commandant First Naval District,
read Navy Department Orders directing Lieutenant Commander Porter
to place the ship into commission. Commission Pennant, Ensign,
and Union Jack were hoisted and two-two blocked. The Admiral’s
flag was broken at the truck. 1049 Pursuant to orders of Chief
of Naval Personnel letter Pers-B1114-MOB-1 dated 17 May 1952,
Lieutenant Commander Porter accepted command of the U.S.S. LST
1156. 1050 Pursuant to verbal orders of Commanding Officer, Lieutenant
Greaves set the watch, first section. 1120 Admiral McRae went
ashore. 1140 Began loading supplies from pier. Moored starboard
side to South pier, using ten-one inch wire line, Bath Iron Works,
Bath, Maine.”

starboard side to South pier, Bath Iron Works, Bath, Maine. Receiving
steam and electricity from pier. Fresh water obtained from own
storage tanks.

as before. Stopped loading supplies from pier. 1830 Liberty commenced
for sections Two (2) and Three (3).
